GSM students in radio and television each gained experience from working the festivities of Salt Lake Community College's Commencement Ceremony for the 2008-09 school year. The simulcast, via Globe Radio & SLCCTV (formerly Valley Television17), allowed students to cover the production of a live event from the Taylorsville Redwood Campus. Globe Radio students created a subsequent podcast of their commencement coverage available on their website.

Globe Student Media students and personnel recently took advantage of a great opportunity to put their skills to the test by participating in a shoot of the Salt Lake City International Airport's disaster training exercise. GSM was asked to document the production so that it could later be distributed to the different agencies that were involved. Interested students were given the chance to develop and refine their skills in the field, learning new techniques and getting a unique hands-on experience in an intense environment.

In light of US Airways Flight 1549's emergency landing into the Hudson River, ABC4 produced a follow-up story regarding emergency preparedness at Salt Lake International Airport, using the footage of the airport disaster training exercise which was shot exclusively by GSM crews. Watch the collaboration which showed the increasing presence of Globe Student Media's capabilities in the industry.
