SLCC Commencement to be simulcast May 8th: Starting at 10:00 a.m. on May 8th, Valley Television and Globe Radio will each be covering the festivities of Salt Lake Community College's Commencement Ceremony for the 2008-09 school year. The simulcast will take place from inside the Lifetime Activities Center on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.Bruins Baseball LIVE on Globe Radio May 2nd: The final Saturday baseball broadcasts will be coming up on May 2nd, as the SLCC Bruins square off against Western Nevada, starting at 12:00 p.m. MST. Globe Radio will call all of the action from Cate Field, led by Brad Harmon, Josh Harrison and Zac Hodge.
Bruins NJCAA Championship College Basketball Archives Now Available: The SLCC Bruins men's basketball team of Salt Lake Community College took home their first NJCAA title in the program's history, using heroics from many key players during the annual tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Globe Radio captured the journey live, and have now archived each of the four game broadcasts for listening on their website. Each archive includes a pregame show and in-game analysis by GSM students Brad Harmon, Zac Hodge, and Josh Harrison.
ABC4 uses Globe Student Media Footage: In light of the recent event of US Airways Flight 1549's emergency landing into the Hudson River, ABC4 produced a follow-up story regarding emergency preparedness at Salt Lake International Airport, using the footage of the airport disaster training exercise which was shot exclusively by Globe Student Media crews. This collaboration shows the increasing presence of Globe Student Media's capabilities in the industry. Click here to see the story which ran on the 10:00 newscast.
More Bruin Basketball Game Dates Announced: Globe Student Media will be covering many more SLCC men's and women's basketball games during the latter half of the 2008-09 season. Brad Harmon and Kevin Kelly will be your source for play-by-play action, from the Lifetime Activities Center on simulcast for Globe Radio and Valley Television17. Harmon and Kelly will team up and take to the road for Globe Radio for additional games. The schedule is below:

SLCC will be hosting College of Eastern Utah this weekend, Friday, January 16th and Colorado Northwestern CC on Saturday, January 17th. The women’s team will be looking for it’s first conference win of the season after falling short to Snow College last Saturday. The men’s team will try and stay undefeated in conference play after taking their first step and defeating Snow College last Saturday. Admission to the games is free for students with your One Card, and $4-6 for anyone without a One Card.

Globe Student Media at Bruins Basketball: The SLCC men's and women's basketball teams were in action on January 10th, 2009 against in-state rival Snow College. While the women's team couldn't overcome an early deficit against the Badgers, losing 82-59, the men's team did get a victory by the score of 82-57.
Globe Student Media personnel were there to catch every second of the action from the Lifetime Activities Center at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, which was simulcast on Globe Radio and Valley Television17. Click here to take a look at the GSM crew as they develop their skills.
SLCC Volleyball in the NJCAA Tournament: The women's volleyball team from Salt Lake Community College were able to rebound from a disappointing first-round loss to Missouri State University-West Plains by winning three straight matches in the consolation bracket.
After a four-set win against Casper College and a memorable five-set victory over North Idaho College on November 21st, the #11-seeded Bruins defeated #12 Hutchinson Community College the following day to earn a 9th place finish overall.

A Promise In Jeopardy: "A Promise In Jeopardy," the unique multi-cast discussion about higher education, job training, and economic opportunities for the future, was a successful project for the crew of Valley Television, who provided technical support for Salt Lake Community College's segment of the live broadcast. "A Promise in Jeopardy" is currently airing across the Salt Lake Valley on Comcast cable channel 17. The program can also be viewed on VTV's website, at www.valleytelevision.net.
The 2008 GSM Open House: The 2008 GSM Open House was a big success for the program. Dozens of students visited with GSM staff and student executives in The Globe Newspaper Office to discover the opportunities available in television, radio, print and digital media through Globe Student Media. A Wii Tennis tournament and free pizza also added to the positive atmosphere of the event. GSM Teams Up with Bruin Athletics: Home games for the Bruins' basketball teams of Salt Lake Community College will be produced by Globe Student Media later this year. The telecasts along with commentary will be performed by GSM student crews. The game dates are as follows:

Interview with D.J. Caruso: Ani Arakelian from The Globe newspaper had the opportunity to join a conference call with D.J. Caruso, director of the action-packed Eagle Eye, which is now playing nationwide. Prior to making Eagle Eye, Caruso has also directed the films Disturbia and Two for the Money.
Globe Student Media partner Allied Advertising provided pre-release passes for the chance to see Eagle Eye in advance. Arakelian, along with other students from across the country, were able to ask questions to Caruso about various elements of his new film. If you would like to listen to the conference call with D.J. SLCC at the DNC: David Hubert attended the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Hubert provided critical analysis of the week's events during phone discussions with Rob Branch in the Globe Radio studio. Listen to the conversations by accessing the Globe Radio website. SLCC Embraces New Media Environment: Tyler Smith is a new faculty member of the School of Arts and Communication. He brings a rich history of work in digital media, video production and web distribution to Salt Lake Community College. Smith wrote an article for the back to school edition of The Globe Newspaper detailing the expansive world of digital media and Globe Student Media's effectiveness within it.
